Pamela Burgess and Drew Lesso completed their first collaboration "Crystal" in December 1985. They were friends since 1979 in the Arts District downtown Los Angeles. Their independent work reflected serious interest in both music and sculpture. So after much lively discussion concerning balance in sculpture and music Pamela created "Crystal", knowing that Drew would be analyzing it to create a harmonic music. This work investigates the vibration/tension between space/object measured by the harmonics of time/frequency. This joint effort is meant to expand knowledge while sharing space. "Crystal" was presented at Bern Porter's 75th birthday celebration.

The music is a harmonic tuning of time, and so microtemporal, that follows from 12 types of measurements taken from the Crystal sculpture.  All of the measurements divide a duration of 1 minute. This 1 minute tuning repeats 12 times.  For each repetition the cycle is speed up 2 to 8 times. The layers are then stacked in a sequence.  A-flat is the monotonal center for 12 bell timbres.
